March 8-9, 2013
St. Thomas More College is pleased to host a conference on social justice and the common good in March of 2013 to mark the 50th anniversary of Vatican II. We will draw an interdisciplinary audience of scholars in areas such as sociology, history, philosophy, religious studies, economics, and political studies whose research has focused on documenting and comprehending changes in the field of social justice that stemmed from this momentous historical event.
The conference will begin with an opening session on the Friday evening at which two scholars will articulate the links between Vatican II and the concepts of social justice and the common good. All-day themed paper sessions on Saturday include:
- A preferential option for the poor
- Religious pluralism / A culture of peace
- Living social justice and the common good.
This conference is sponsored by the newly established Leslie and Irene Dubé Chair for Catholic Studies and the University of Saskatchewan Conference Fund.
