Where is STM?
1 . What is STM?
St. Thomas More College (STM) is a Catholic liberal arts college that
is federated with the University of Saskatchewan. We are an inclusive community that has been part of the U of S since 1936.
2 . Where is STM?
We are located on the U of S campus in Saskatoon. Our address is 1437 College Drive.
3 . How does STM work?
STM is federated with the U of S. We are academically
integrated with the U of S. We have our own administration and we hire
our own faculty but all the work we do is connected with the larger
university. STM students are U of S students at the same time.
4 . How is STM different from the University of Saskatchewan
STM is a Catholic college that was founded by the Basilian Fathers. STM has its own administration, faculty,
and staff, but our academic programs are integrated with the U of S. We offer a small college experience within the larger Universty of Saskatchewan.
5 . Who can become an STM student?
Any U of S student can register in STM classes but that doesn't make you an STM student. Arts and Science students can self-declare as STM students on the admission application or through PAWS. This is how one officially becomes and STM student.
6 . Who can take STM classes?
Anyone admitted to the U of S can register in STM classes.
7 . Are STM classes smaller?
STM classes are generally smaller than regular university sections.
8 . Are STM classes religious?
STM classes have curriculum that is approved by the University of
Saskatchewan. Religious themes might be part of the
content of certain courses (I.E. Religious Studies or Catholic Studies) but you are not
required to hold any particular religious beliefs.
9 . Do STM classes count for U of S credit?
Yes!
10 . Why should I take an STM class?
Take STM classes because: the topic interests you, or the class size is smaller, or it fits into your schedule, or the professor is a good teacher, or for all of these reasons.
11 . How do I choose STM classes?
STM classes are listed on PAWS with all the regular university classes.
You simply look for classes with section numbers in the 60s and 70s. They also have "St.
Thomas More College class" in its course attributes description.
12 . How do I become an STM student?
You can self-declare as an STM student when your apply for admission to the U of S, or when you register for classes using PAWS.
13 . What programs can I choose as an STM student?
Any programs available to Arts & Science students are available to
STM students (because STM students are Arts & Science students). This includes pre-professional programs such as pre-law,
pre-medicine etc.
14 . Does it cost anything extra to enrol through STM?
No. You pay regular U of S tution and fees.
15 . Do I have to be Catholic to be an STM student?
No. Students from many different backgrounds self-declare as STM students and/or take STM classes.
