Conferences, Symposia, Exhibitions

PCUH organizes and sponsors conferences, symposia and exhibitions on a continuing basis, co-operating with other institutions interested in exploring through scholarly and public discussion the Ukrainian experience. Past events include:

Managing Immigration: The Recent Canadian/ Ukrainian/ Saskatchewan Experience (2010)

A faculty/graduate student roundtable organized by PCUH in association with the Hnatyshyn Canadian Studies Centre held May 11-12, 2010 at Chernivtsi National University, Chernivtsi, Ukraine.

In Search of Voice: Oral History as Theory, Method and Source (2009)

An international scholarly symposium organized by the Oral History Program at PCUH in conjunction with the Kowalsky Eastern Institute of Ukrainian Studies, the Ukrainian Oral History Association, and the V. Karazin National University of Kharkiv. Held in Kharkiv, Ukraine on December 11-12, 2009.

Far, Far Away: Postcards from Pre-Revolutionary Ukraine (2007)

Travelling exhibit organized in cooperation with the STM Art Gallery.  Exhibit held in conjunction with the annual conference of the Canadian Association of Slavists, 2007 Learneds, University of Saskatchewan.

Oral History and Socio-cultural Change (2006)

The first all-Ukrainian Oral History seminar co-organized with the Institute of Ethnology, National Academy of Sciences, L'viv, Ukraine.

Orality and Literacy in Contemporary Scholarship (2004)

International symposium co-organized with the Department of English and Department of History, University of Saskatchewan. Symposium held in conjunction with the Oral History of Collectivisation photo exhibit.

Oral History of Collectivisation: Ukraine in the 1930s (2004)

Photo exhibit co-organized with Rodovid Publishing House (Ukraine) and the Ukrainian Museum of Canada, Saskatoon. Exhibit held in conjunction with the Orality and Literacy symposium.

Icons and Images: Inheriting a Tradition, Constructing a Tradition (2003)

Scholarly conference held at St. Thomas More College, University of Saskatchewan. Conference organized in conjunction with the Village Masters exhibit.

Village Masters: Folk Icons of Ukraine, 18-19th century (2003)

Exhibit co-organized with Rodovid Publishing House (Ukraine) and the Ukrainian Museum of Canada, Saskatoon. Exhibit held in conjunction with the Icons and Images conference.

Dmytro Stryjek: Poetic Vision (2002)

Scholarly symposium and travelling exhibit. Exhibit organized in cooperation with the Kenderdine Gallery, University of Saskatchewan.

Black, Sea Golden Steppes: Antiquarian Maps of the Black Sea Coast and the Steppes of Old Ukraine (2001)
