Musical Evening Organized by Ukrainian Student’s Club in Co-operation with PCUH

February 28, 2009 | 7:00 pm | Fr. O'Donnell Auditorium, STM

On February 28, an evening of music and song with the accomplished Alberta-based musicologist Brian Cherwick was hosted at STM. Historical Cossack songs, religious chants of the blind minstrel era, as well as Western Ukrainian Canadian music were played by Cherwick and a number of accompanying musicians on a variety of traditional folk instruments including the kobza, lira, starosvitska bandura, trembita and duda.

The event titled "Ukrainian Music, Art and Soul: The Ukrainian Folk Music of Brian Cherwick "was organized by the University of Saskatchewan Ukrainian Student's Association in co-operation with the PCUH to help promote a wider appreciation of the Ukrainian music scene within the community and especially amongst the next generation of Ukrainian Canadians.
