Created in 1998, the Prairie Centre for the Study of Ukrainian Heritage (PCUH) is an academic unit of St. Thomas More College, University of Saskatchewan. The purpose of the PCUH is to serve as an anchor for Ukrainian Studies at the University of Saskatchewan, supporting course offerings in the area of study while engaging in programs and projects that promote a wider understanding and appreciation of the Ukrainian experience in Canada and abroad.

At the level of instruction, the PCUH ensures that an opportunity is provided to University of Saskatchewan students to acquire Ukrainian language training either on campus or abroad as well as an opportunity to take Ukrainian-content courses within a multidisciplinary setting. At the level of research and scholarship, the PCUH provides individual support; disseminates the results of research conducted under its auspices; organizes symposia, conferences and exhibitions; promotes dialogue between various disciplines, perspectives, and communities; and encourages young scholars specializing in the area by providing scholarships at the graduate level. The Heritage Press serves as the publishing arm of the PCUH. The PCUH also has an important outreach component in its programming mandate, working with the community on special projects and events. All programming at the PCUH is supported by endowments as well as individual contributions.

An Academic Director carries out the executive and administrative functions of the PCUH and oversees the centre’s programmes. The Director reports to the Dean of St Thomas More College. Tenured academic faculty associates at St. Thomas More College manage and co-ordinate individual PCUH projects or programmes; individual faculty at the University of Saskatchewan are also invited to participate and submit research proposals for support. An Academic Advisory Board provides strategic advice in the planning, development and promotion of PCUH programmes. An annual newsletter, PCUH Focus, reports on the activities of the Centre.
