Dr. Sarah Powrie Receives 1 of 10 USSU Teaching Excellence Awards
On March 28th, Dr. Sarah Powrie, Assistant Professor of English at STM College, received one of 10 USSU Teaching Excellence Awards. The award, which is determined by students, recognizes contributions to teaching excellence at the U of S.
"It's an honour and a surprise to win this award," says Dr. Powrie. "I think I was just lucky enough to have a wonderful group of students this year."An alumnus of STM College, Dr. Powrie completed her doctoral studies at the University of Toronto. Her scholarly interests include medieval allegory, medieval science and cognitive theory.
Dr. Powrie was not alone in receiving recognition from the USSU; more than 100 instructors at the U of S were nominated for this award, which prompted the USSU to recognize Honourable Mentions as well. These included STM instructors Dawn Friel-Hipperson (English), Celene Sidloski (English), and Nelly Plantiveau (Languages and Linguistics).
The Teaching Excellence Awards were announced during the 18th annual Experience in Excellence Awards ceremony, which pays tribute to individuals for their part in enhancing the student experience at the U of S.
