Newman Centre hosting annual reatreat at St. Peter's Abbey
This year’s Newman Annual Retreat marks a number of special events: St. Thomas More College’s 75th anniversary; Newman Centre’s 85th anniversary; and over 40 years of venturing out to St. Peter’s Abbey in Muenster for the annual retreat! For this special event, Newman has engaged a familiar face in Fr. Ken Thorson, omi, this year’s retreat facilitator. After his Novitiate in Arnprior, ON, studies in Rome and a pastoral year on the chaplaincy team at St Thomas More College, Fr Ken made his perpetual vows with the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate in 1997. After his ordination in 1999 he spent four years at St Patrick Parish in Saskatoon. In 2003 Fr Ken moved to England to be part of the Oblate Mission to Secularity project in Birmingham. In 2008 Fr Ken was appointed to his present ministry as Director of Vocations for OMI Lacombe Canada Province. Born in Saskatoon, Fr Ken is proud of his Saskatchewan roots. He always looks forward to time here with the Oblates and Associates, family and friends, especially his nine nieces and nephews. Fr Ken lives in St Albert with the Oblate Youth Ministry and Parish Mission Communities.

This year’s Newman Retreat is on January 27-29. The theme is, Oh, the Places you’ll go! Discovering Life’s Path. Fr. Ken will be exploring the ways of prayerful discernment, the many different options we have in life, and which paths God is calling us to! Registration brochures can be found at the St. Thomas More Chapel on campus, and the Newman Office at STM , Rm 104. If you’d like more information, please call Michael in Campus Ministry at 966-8931, or email mmaclean@stmcollege.ca .
I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that bears no fruit he cuts away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes to make it bear even more. John 15:1-2 |
